Saying Goodbye

Tuesday was a difficult day. We have had a Chinese exchange student named Ning who is a senior in high school living with us for the last two years and on Monday she told us she was leaving on Tuesday. Yes very sudden for sure. Her mom found her a flight home and they seized on it. After all, all of her school work is online now with the Corona-virus shutting everything down. Why not go home? I am very happy she gets to go home to be with her mom and dad. She will get to visit her grandparents and spend some time with family. We knew at some point she was going to leave us, we just didn’t know it was going to be so quickly. It has been a delight having her as part of our family. She is an introvert and hides away in her room for the most part but she has a beautiful smile and we love to eat her baked goodies when she comes out of hiding.

As with any teenager it has not always a smooth ride but the experience of having her here is something I would not change for anything. It has been amazing to see God work in her life. She came to us with no belief in Christ and she accepted Christ as her savoir a little more than a year ago. It happened when we least expected it but is that not how God works? God is good! I have told Lovie many times that God has used this hosting program to change me. The way I see other, the way God wants me to see others and the impact of following God’s command, to love and to put others before yourself.

We are going to have to change our home study a little to adjust for her leaving but that’s okay. I could write for hours about our time with her but I will respect her privacy because she would not approve.

Ning, we love you and you will always be in our hearts.
